A Musical History of Disneyland

I’m a huge Disney nerd. Doesn’t matter if it’s the theme parks, movies, or cartoons… I love all things Disney. Heck, I’m a theme park geek in general, but that’s another story.

One of the best things about the Disney Parks is something you may not even consciously notice… the music. From the movies to television, Disney’s always known how to use music to best effect, and the theme parks are no exception. Some songs, such as It’s A Small World, A Pirates Life for me, and Grim Grinning Ghosts, have entered into pop culture. But there’s so much more than that… from the streets to the restaurants, the Disney parks are full of wonderful music that often goes unappreciated.

DSC073992005 marked the 50th anniversary of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. All sorts of special merchandise was released to commemorate it, and perhaps the best of the bunch was this CD box set, celebrating the music of Disneyland throughout the years.

There were several versions released, but all came in the same gorgeous red box. This is the special edition, so let’s see what’s inside!

DSC07400 A Musical History of Disneyland included the music library itself, a coffee table book, and a reproduction of a classic Disneyland vinyl record.

DSC07405 DSC07407The Audio Library of Disneyland includes 6 CDs, containing nearly every single music track from Disneyland up to that point. The 6th CD even includes special event music, such as Haunted Mansion Holiday!

DSC07409 DSC07410The Sounds of Disneyland is a coffee table book discussing the park’s music. It has lots of nice information, and neat pictures to boot.

DSC07413 DSC07415Lastly is a reproduction of the vinyl record Walt Disney Takes You to Disneyland. It’s a faithful replica, featuring a compilation of music from all lands in the park at the time.

If you’re a Disney fan, I’d say A Musical History of Disneyland is a must-own. However, the set IS rare and expensive these days, especially new. In closing, A Musical History of Disneyland is a gorgeous and expansive collection of music from the greatest theme park of all time.
